It costs you more money and uses more energy to heat and cool your home than any other system in your home. Typically, 44% to 50% of your utility bills pays for heating and cooling your home. In Miami, where the tempature is always warm, saving money on your air conditioning costs is an important factor for every homeowner.

Regardless of the type of home comfort systems you have in your house, you can save money and increase comfort by properly maintaining and upgrading your equipment.

Keep in mind that an energy efficient air conditioner alone will not have as great an impact on your energy bills as using an approach that involves the entire house. If you combine proper equipment maintenance and upgrades with appropriate insulation, you can reduce your energy bills by up to 50%.

To achieve the maximum in total home comfort and energy savings, we recommend that you step back and look at the big picture of energy consumption. The fact is, your total home comfort and efficiency is the product of many systems: heating, cooling, lighting & electrical, plumbing and possibly others working together.

It is the interplay between these systems, combined with the size, age, physical features and location of your home, and even your lifestyle, that combine to produce the total energy efficiency of your home. Changing or upgrading one system, without considering the other factors will usually result in some improvement, but may not deliver the maximum possible benefit.

Conduct a Home Energy Audit
The place to begin when evaluating your home’s overall energy efficiency and deciding how to reduce consumption and costs is with a Home Energy Audit. This takes into consideration much more than just your heating and cooling systems, and will give you a benchmark from which to make decisions and measure your energy saving progress.

Chills Air Conditioning offers FREE estimates on Home Energy Audits to suggest the best equipment for your home, business or marine property.

Consider Purchasing an Annual Maintenance Agreement
You’ve heard the old adage, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it?” Well that doesn’t apply to your air conditioner any more than it does to your automobile. However, when your system is operating properly, it is easy to forget. Regular maintenance will save you the time money and headaches of premature system failures and major repairs. It will ensure that your system is always working at peak efficiency and help you avoid excessive energy costs.

Chills Air Conditioning offers great pricing on annual maintenance agreements. Call us today at 305-778-COOL for your FREE estimate.

Make sure your Air Conditioner is properly sized
Bigger Is Not Necessarily Better – A bigger room air-conditioning unit won’t necessarily make you feel more comfortable during the hot summer months and will most likely perform less efficiently and less effectively than a smaller, properly sized unit. Room units work better if they run for relatively long periods of time as opposed to being constantly switched on and off. The longer running time an air conditioner is allowed to maintain, the easier it is for the unit to hold a more constant room temperature. Running longer also allows air conditioning units to remove more moisture from the air, which reduces humidity and increases the comfort level in the room.

Chills Air Conditioning will suggest the best air conditioning unit for you to save money and energy. Chills Air Conditioning is one of the leading Miami Air Conditioning companies in the market for the installation & maintenance of air conditioning.

Just because the temperatures are rising does not mean that your air-conditioning bill has to rise as well. There are ways you can save money on air conditioning while you still stay cool. Try to employ some or all of these tips to save money while you beat the heat and help the environment.

Set central-air thermostats to kick in automatically when the indoor temperature rises above 76 degrees F.

Use your window air-conditioning unit only at night. Double up on sleeping arrangements so more family members can benefit from the cooled air.

Turn off the air conditioner on low-humidity days, and on days when the temperature remains below 85 degrees F. Every day you do this will save on the rising costs of air conditioning your home or business.

Use ceiling fans and window fans whenever possible, especially at night, to bring in the cooler air. This can be done in place of turning on the air conditioning.

Turn on the air-conditioning unit early in the day whenever the temperatures are predicted to be 85 degrees F or higher, or when it is predicted to be raining or extremely humid. That way the air conditioner will not have to work as hard later on, since you started the cooling process gradually. This actually requires less energy than waiting for the brutal heat or humidity to hit.

Keep blinds, curtains, windows and doors closed so the sun is not as potent and your home does not heat up as quickly. Use a ceiling fan to keep air circulating.

Have your air conditioner tuned up yearly so it is running at peak efficiency. It is worth the small investment in a service call.

Pay close attention to the Energy Star rating and the unit’s efficiency when you’re shopping for an air conditioner. This can mean a significant savings on your overall energy bill.

Take advantage of the wind. Open two opposite windows so you can enjoy a breeze on days when it is windy.

Plant a shade tree in front of your home. This is nature’s natural air conditioner. The tree’s shade will keep the sun from directly hitting your home, so the inside will heat up more slowly.
