Having to get a new air conditioning unit can be stressful on everyone involved. But it shouldn’t have to be. There are steps that you can take to help make the process go as smoothly as possible. Make sure you do your research ahead of time to ensure that you are getting a quality and credible company to service your home. It is easy to be drawn towards the cheapest prices in the fastest amount of time. But you should take other things into consideration as well.

Make sure the contractor goes over the load calculation for your home with you. In order to install the correct size unit for your home, your contractor will need to know the homes requirements for both heating and cooling. This is determined by a few different factors. These factor include, but are not limited to the size of home, window type, or amount of insulation in the home. You never want to base your calculation off of the buildings square footage alone. This is a sure fire way of making a drastic mistake.

You also want to make sure to go over all the duct work in your home with your contractor. This is to check for leaks in the duct work. After all the time and money goes into installing your new air conditioner, it would be terrible if they had to send someone back out almost immediately for repairs. The reason leaky ducts can be so costly, is because it is wasting energy. You air conditioner will essentially be working 2 times harder to cool or heat the same amount of space. Also, when inspecting the ducts, you want to make sure that the duct work isn’t to small,  this can lead to premature equipment failure.

It goes without saying, that you want to make sure your contractor isn’t going to be cutting any corners, and make sure all the wiring and fuses in your home are compatible with the new unit being installed. If they are not, you could be in for problems much worse than AC failure. You could be looking at electrical fires if you aren’t careful. Sometimes the wiring needs to be replaced because the previous unit could be out of date.

Just make sure your contractor goes over everything with you. After all, you are having a new installment added onto your home, and you want to make sure it is perfect. Licensed contractors know what they are doing, and will go over all this with you anyway. But it is good to have head start so you can help them out as much as you possibly can.
