Just because it is December and you do not need to be running your air conditioning, doesn’t mean that you can’t be thinking about preparing for the upcoming months. Whether that means getting your whole system checked out to make sure it is functioning properly when the heat comes or considering a new unit if your old system has been performing less than ideally. There are plenty of problems that can occur with your AC and here are some of the most common ones.
Refrigerant Issues: if your AC unit is low on refrigerant it was either undercharged during installation or last inspection or there is a leak in the system. You cannot expect your air conditioning unit to operate efficiently and at peak performance if there is less than the necessary refrigerant. A trained service technician will be able to fix the leak, test the repair and charge the system with the proper amount as specified by the manufacturer.
Electrical Failure: the system controls can eventually wear out if the unit is constantly being turned on and off (discussed later on). Having all the controls and electrical connections serviced is important. Wire corrosion can also be a common problem, especially in older units.
Inadequate Maintenance: in order for the system to operate properly, it is very important that the filters and AC coils are cleaned regularly. If the unit is producing cold air but the air cannot leave the system efficiently, then the air becomes warm. Clean filters and coils help prolong the life of the compressor and the fans. Keeping your system clean is imperative to keep it running effectively.
Sensor Problems: room air conditioners, like a Mitsubishi wall AC unit, have thermostat sensors on them to detect the room temperature and operate accordingly. If the sensor is out of position next to the evaporative coil, the unit may cycle continuously or erratically.
Unit Size: if your air conditioner continuously cycles on and off, your unit is most likely improperly sized for your home, office or retail space. Larger than necessary units will reach the desired temperature much faster and then shut off. Frequently turning on and off can cause mechanical and electrical issues over time. If your unit is too small, then it will continuously run without shutting off. This can cause the unit parts to wear out faster than normal as well.
These are some common and important problems that can happen with your air conditioning system. If you think that it is time to update to a new system in your home, office or retail space, check out the Mitsubishi mini split AC systems. Unlike central air conditioning systems, Mitsubishi ductless AC systems offer lower utility bills, zoned temperature controlled areas, super quiet operation and cost significantly less than central air systems. The way that mini split systems work is that they consist of an outdoor unit (where the compressor and condenser coil are located) and an indoor unit(s) (where the evaporator coil is located). Through the copper tubing that connects the two units, the compressor pumps refrigerant from the condenser coil to the evaporator coil in the indoor unit. Then once the air is cooled, the fan blows it into the indoor space.
